Commentary made about President Donald Trump by a former News 12 reporter and anchor is getting national attention.
Alisha Laventure, who grew up in Massapequa and is the daughter of Haitian immigrants, delivered a response to President Trump's reported comments on African nations and people from Haiti. She made the commentary on-air at the Texas news station where she now works.
"How do you criticize people who are simply trying to come to this country to live a better life?" Laventure says. "The president of the United States, a man who represents a nation of immigrants, said that. I get I'm a journalist ... I'm supposed to be unbiased, I'm supposed to report the facts. The fact is what the president said yesterday is wrong. It is so wrong that I can't even repeat it on air."
The three-minute clip was posted last week to Facebook. By Monday it had more than 5 million views, and had been shared more than 121,000 times.
