Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone provided his Wednesday COVID-19 update, where he highlighted declining numbers and thanked nurses during Nurses Week.
Briefing Notes:
- Decline in hospitalizations returns, down to 773, decrease by 63 from prior day.
- Comes after two days of increase in hospitalizations (4 on Monday, 18 on Tuesday).
- Bellone reiterates even with increases, county was expected to meet guidelines.
- Below 300 patients on ICU beds (295).
- 733 COVID-19 cases, 38,985 total cases over entire pandemic.
- Nearly 3,000 people have tested positive for having the COVID-19 antibodies -- these are people who hadn't previously tested positive.
- 85 COVID-19 hospital discharges -- significant rise from Tuesday.
- No update on the death toll.
- Suffolk received 10,000 county-procured face shields, to be 
- 3,419 tests at hot spot sites -- 41% positive rate. Bellone says infection rate has continuously declined.
- Bellone issues a warning about phone scams -- says police have been able to intervene in return money in some cases.
