Attorneys for the families of Blue Point native Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie will both be in court on Wednesday.
Petito disappeared last summer when the couple was a on a cross-country trip in the summer of 2021. Her body was eventually found in Wyoming.
Petito's family filed a lawsuit against the Laundrie family, claiming that their son admitted to them that he strangled Petito and that they helped him cover the crime.
The Laundries have denied the claim and called the suit "baseless and frivolous."
Laundrie's body was found in October. The FBI says he shot himself and admitted responsibility for Petito's death.
Wednesday's hearing in Florida will decide if the case should move forward to a jury trial next year.
