Floral Park village officials are asking the state to put the brakes on a plan to build a new Islanders arena at Belmont Park.
The village mayor and several other elected officials are asking the Empire State Development Corporation to issue a supplemental environmental impact statement.
The statement would slow the process, and allow residents and others to weigh in on the latest proposed development, including a new, full time LIRR station.
“We are here to say we do not want to go forward with this project as is, because there is no way that it won't hurt us,” say Floral Park Village Mayor Dominic Longobard. “It will hurt us.”
The village says if the state refuses to listen to the input of residents and others, it is considering its legal options.
