A ferocious fire ripped through a Webster Avenue apartment building Sunday night, leaving management pointing the finger at tenants.
Residents at 1985 Webster Ave. say flames tore through the first floor, blowing out glass and charring everything in sight. Firefighters at the scene urged them to stay inside, since their doors are fireproof. Officials say nine people were transported to the hospital.
Building employees blame tenants who left garbage on the floor near the trash compactor, which is believed to be the source of the fire. However, residents argue someone set the blaze on purpose. They question why someone would put people's lives and homes at risk in such a manner.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
