The Yale Medical School found a unique way to give back its community and kids in need.

More than dozen students, residents and faculty from the school's first-generation/low-income student group built 11 bikes Thursday night. The bikes will be distributed by New Haven police to low-income families.

The group also donated helmets, along with elbow and shin guards. Members of state's Inspector General's Office completed safety inspections on the bikes.

The annual event is organized by Jaime Cavallo, associate professor of urology.
