Hundreds of firefighters and officials from Nassau and Suffolk county rallied in Eisenhower Park Sunday in a show of support for police officers.
Fire officials offered their thanks to law enforcement officers for the selfless work they do each day, and police officers in attendance expressed appreciation for the support.
"It's a good brotherhood. They have our backs, we have their backs and it's great," says Nassau Officer Kenneth Tymecki.
It comes after police were targeted in shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge. Officials say 26 police officers have been killed in the U.S. in 2016, eight more than at the same time last year.
"We have a greater concern for our police officers, as you can see around the nation they're being targeted, and we want them to know we support them," says County Executive Ed Mangano.
