Officials are warning residents to be safe while barbecuing this Father's Day.
A barbecue safety presentation was held Friday outside Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.
Officials said serious fires and burns can be avoided by checking connections and keeping the grill clean.
"So you want to make sure the drip pans underneath are nice and clean," said East Meadow Fire Chief Philip Fertitta. "You want to make sure there's no built up grease on there. That is probably our No. 1 cause of all barbecue fires."
An estimated 80 million people will be having barbecues this weekend.
