Dozens of passengers safely escaped from a Fire Island Ferry headed for Bay Shore Sunday after it caught fire.
One passenger, Matt Covrigaro, says the fire alarm on the Fire Island Belle Ferry went off just before smoke engulfed the bottom of the ferry. He says children were the first to evacuate.
Covrigaro says the passengers walked to Dunewood to take another ferry back to Bay Shore. Ferry officials confirm that no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
