Fire Island ferry officials say "undesirables with no morals" are to blame for canceled late-night ferry service this summer.
Officials say the 1 a.m. weekend ferry back to Bay Shore from Ocean Beach on Fire Island will not run because it became "unmanageable" due to highly intoxicated riders.
Ferry company management made their explanation in a Facebook post where they said, "The 1 a.m. ferry has now morphed into a 1 a.m. of undesirables with no morals."
Dave Anderson, the general manager of the Fire Island Ferries, says he stands by the choice of words.
"You would have to be a participant, a rider on that ferry, it's a very unruly crowd," he told News 12.  "Progressively, it's been getting worse and worse."
According to a letter from the Village of Ocean Beach, the decision to cancel the ferry was a mutual agreement between the mayor and the ferry company.
