The FDNY has confirmed that a fire that killed one man and injured another in Flatbush was accidental and sparked by an electrical issue.

The fire broke out just after 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night inside a second-floor apartment on Lenox Road near Nostrand Avenue. A nearby ring camera recorded someone shouting, “Fire! There’s a fire in there!” moments before flames ripped through the building.

A 50-year-old man was found unresponsive inside the apartment and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. As of Friday, police have not released the victim’s name.

Initially, the fire was being investigated as suspicious, and a crime scene was set up. But Friday afternoon, the FDNY confirmed that fire marshals determined the cause was accidental and electrical.

The Red Cross says five families were displaced in the fire. In total, 13 adults and four children are receiving temporary lodging and emergency financial assistance.

Neighbors say the tragedy has left the block shaken.

“It was scary—especially because I’m carrying a child,” said neighbor Keriany Vargas. “It’s concerning because somebody lost their life.”

FDNY officials say the investigation is now closed.
