A landmark Bay Shore floral shop went up in flames Tuesday night, just before Valentine's Day.
More than 100 firefighters battled the fire at Patthey Florist, which has been in operation since 1968. Fire officials say they are lucky none of the 1,000 exploding aerosol spray cans hit anyone. Owner Charles Piazza says he can't believe Patthey, which he purchased two years ago, is gone.
Piazza says 8,000 roses, a couple thousand carnations and hundreds of plush animals were lost in the fire. Determined to deliver for the holiday, Piazza rounded up 4,000 roses for his customers on short notice.
