The East Farmingdale Fire Department and other units responded to a severe fire at Cruise Control Limousines on Monday.
East Farmingdale Fire Chief Scott Lewis says the flames broke out at around 5 p.m. at the business on Allen Boulevard.
The fire burned for several hours and needed a dozen fire departments to put it out. The flames at one point were so severe, firefighters were forced to stay outside the building.
“We tried initially an interior attack, put two lines in operation. We went in, there was a huge volume of fire, we got pushed back. We went to an exterior operation quickly,” Lewis says. “We did call in 12 departments from the Town of Babylon, Farmingdale Village and South Farmingdale fire departments.”
Two employees were evacuated. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.
Part of the building's roof collapsed and several cars inside were on fire. First responders had to hose down a classic trolley parked just outside.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
