A documentary by a Long Island charity is shedding light on the struggle and sacrifice of Sept. 11 first responders who have fallen ill in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.
The FealGood Foundation?s film ?Save the Brave? premieres Aug. 28 at the Bellmore Theater. It depicts the stories of men like Greg Quibell, of North Babylon, who was diagnosed with leukemia last year and has been in and out of the hospital since then.
John Feal, the group?s founder, says men and women like Quibell have been all but forgotten.
?Greg Quibell is going to die, and while every 9/11 responder I help is my hero because all 9/11 responders deserve to be treated like heroes, he's our friend,? Feal says. ?And when a friend gets sick and dies because of bad politics, I take it personally.?
The aim of the documentary, Feal says, is to get the attention of lawmakers and raise awareness of the issue.
Quibell?s wife Theresa Galopee says he developed the disease because of the work he did at the ground zero site.
