A fight in the parking lot of a Hampton Bays diner has left one man dead.
Police were called to the Hampton Bays Diner at about 4 a.m. Sunday after getting a call that a group of men were fighting.
When authorities arrived, they discovered 26-year-old Calvin Butts, of Riverhead, lying in the parking lot. He had been stabbed multiple times.
Butts was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
James Vlahadamis says he doesn't remember a similar incident in the 25 years his family has run the Hampton Bays Diner. He says the restaurant was packed with customers when his father told him to call police because a fight had broken out on the front doorstep.
Police say the slaying may have been caught on surveillance camera and are continuing to canvass for eyewitnesses.
AP wire services were used in this report.
