Federal officials are warning the state to take down the 'I love New York' signs.
The big blue signs are loaded with information about tourism, and they say that is the problem.
Federal officials say the signs are a dangerous distraction for drivers and illegal.
In addition, they say if the signs aren't removed, funds for highway and bridge projects could be slashed.
During the summer, Montauk residents demanded the giant signs be removed.
