Federal prosecutors are in support of a shorter prison term for Oyster Bay businessman Harendra Singh, who was the star witness in former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano's corruption case.
As News 12 has reported, Mangano and his wife were found guilty in 2019 of accepting bribes from Singh and then lying to the FBI to cover it up.
Prosecutors now believe Singh should serve less than the 14-to 17-and-a-half years in prison his crimes call for. They told the judge in court documents that Singh provided "substantial assistance" in the investigation.
Singh's attorney tells news 12, "Mr. Singh's cooperation with government was prolific and an essential piece of the government's case against the Manganos."
Singh is expected to be sentenced next week.
