FDA: Red No. 3 banned from food

The FDA is banning the controversial red dye No. 3 from food due to a potential cancer link.
Studies found that high doses of the dye caused cancer in male rats.
The International Association of Color Manufacturers said the dye is safe in levels normally consumed by people.
News 12 spoke with Dr. Sotiria Everett, a registered dietitian and professor at Stony Brook.
She said it would be smart for consumers to dig deeper and read labels on food products so know what they're eating.
