The man who police say fled the scene of a deadly drag race with his 2-year-old son in tow was arraigned Friday on charges that could land him in jail for 12 years.
A Queens man was killed when his car crashed during the race at the intersection of Dutch Broadway and 238th Street. Police say the other participant, 38-year-old Jose DeSilva, got out of his car to examine the crash scene, turned around and left.
Later, police say DeSilva admitted to having his son in the car during the raced. They say he was watching his son that day and was supposed to be taking him to his mother-in-law?s house.
DeSilva is facing charges of reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted, he faces up to 12 years behind bars.
