A jury heard opening statements Monday in the trial of a Farmingville man accused of killing an off-duty corrections officer in a bar fight last summer.
Prosecutors say 26-year-old Anthony Oddone choked Andrew Reister to death during a fight at the Publick House in Southampton. He faces a second-degree murder charge.
Reister was working part time as a bouncer at the bar. The fight allegedly began when Reister told Oddone to stop dancing on a table. Prosecutors say Oddone threw the first punch and then proceeded to choke the bouncer.
Oddone's attorney, however, says her client acted in self defense and calls Reister the aggressor.
Oddone faces 25 years to life if convicted.
