A touching video asking the world to help find a kidney donor for a Farmingville man has gone viral on social media.
Robert Costa, 68, says he was told by his doctor almost a year ago that his kidneys were not working, and after months of countless tests, he was told three weeks ago that he qualified to go on a donor list.
His daughter, Melanie Maiorca, took matters into her own hands last week with a call to action on social media. She created a TikTok video telling everyone her family needs help.
Costa, since going into total kidney failure, now undergoes dialysis three times a week for four hours at a time.
Maiorca says her father, without question, is the head of the family. She says he is the one everyone goes to for an honest, unfiltered answer or a laugh. She says it has been a rollercoaster of emotions for all of them.
Anyone who would like to help is asked to call Kidney Transplant Services at Stony Brook Medicine at 631-444-1656.
