Farmingdale, Latino residents reach deal in affordable housing lawsuit
Farmingdale has reached an affordable housing settlement after years of legal fights.
In 2006, a group of nine Latino residents filed an anti-discrimination lawsuit against the village of Farmingdale.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit claim that the village helped fast-track developers to tear down low-income housing to build an upscale apartment complex, displacing around 150 Latino residents.
As part of the deal, the village has agreed to build low-income housing in the area. The plaintiffs will also receive an undisclosed monetary settlement.
