The woman who is believed to be the world’s oldest Holocaust survivor died Monday at a Long Island nursing home at the age of 113, according to her granddaughter.
Rose Girone’s family says she was born in Poland in 1912 and lived in Austria and Germany. In 1939, her family says she escaped the Nazis by moving to China with her daughter.
Girone eventually moved to the United States in 1947 and opened a Rose's Knitting Studio in 1953.
The family says Girone kept working and volunteering until she was 102.
Girone turned 113 on Jan. 13.
