Family and friends are remembering a Marine from Long Island killed in a car accident in North Carolina.

Scores of people holding flags lined Montauk Highway in Mastic Beach to salute 19-year-old Nick Buscarnera on his final journey home.

The Mastic Beach native and another Marine from upstate New York were killed in a car accident near Camp Lejeune in North Carolina last week.

The Marine was a passenger in the car, which was discovered upside down and submerged in a canal.

His girlfriend remembered him as a man with a strong sense of honor and duty to his country.

Buscarnera graduated in 2012 from William Floyd High School. At 17, he signed up to serve because he was inspired by his father's service in the Marines.

His wake will be held Friday and funeral services are scheduled for Saturday. Buscarnera will be buried at Calverton National Cemetery.
