News 12 Long Island has learned that a Coram man is one of the soldiers that was killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan.
The family of Air Force Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa tells News 12 that he was among the six Americans killed Monday in the Taliban attack.
As News 12 reported, a suicide bomber on a motorcycle detonated a bomb near Bagram Airfield, killing six and wounding three others.
Bonacasa's family says the 31-year-old entered the Air Force immediately after graduating from Newfield High School in 2002. He was on his fourth tour of duty when he died. He also served in Iraq and Kuwait.
Bonacasa grew up in Coram in a tight-knit family. He was married at 20 years old and had a daughter named Lily, who turned 5 a few days ago.
On Monday, officials confirmed that NYPD Detective Joseph Lemm was also among the Americans killed in the attack. Bonacasa's family says the two were roommates in Afghanistan.
Bonacasa and Lemm were both based out of the 105th Air Wing at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, Orange County.
