Loved ones gathered at a Centerport church Friday to say goodbye to a 17-year-old high school senior who drowned in a local YMCA pool.
Marc Dawson was training to be a Navy SEAL on Feb. 18 at the Y when he was found unconscious in the pool. Friends say he was practicing holding his breath as part of the training. Dawson died a week later in the hospital. Investigators say the drowning was an accident.
Friends remembered Dawson as a warm, funny person who always smiled. They say it was his dream to be a Navy SEAL.
A flag is flying at half-staff at Harborfields High School, where Dawson was a student. The principal says students and teachers are having a tough time dealing with the death.
Dawson?s parents donated their son's organs, hoping to save the lives of others.
