New details emerged Tuesday about the suspected shooter of two Long Island women who were killed in Arizona.
Police in Tempe, Arizona say 22-year-old Joshua Mendel waited outside the apartment building of Carol Kestenbaum, of Bellmore, for her to return early Sunday. They say he then shot and killed Kestenbaum and her visiting childhood friend Nicole Schiffman, of Merrick, before killing himself. According to Mendel's sister, the suspected shooter admitted to his family that he was suicidal and promised to seek help. Tempe police also report Mendel called 911 on Super Bowl Sunday to ask for alcohol rehab information, which officers delivered.
Funeral arrangements for the victims have been set for Wednesday. Schiffman will be laid to rest at 10 a.m. at Gutterman's Funeral Home, 175 N. Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre. Kestenbaum's funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. at I.J. Morris Funeral Home, 46 Greenwich Street in Hempstead.
