Hundreds of people gathered at Calverton National Cemetery on Memorial Day to remember those who gave their lives for their country.
The family of Army Pfc. Garfield Langhorn received a wreath in his honor at the cemetery.
Langhorn, from Riverhead, was just 20 years old when he sacrificed his life in Vietnam by lying on a grenade to save his fellow soldiers.
Other families visited grave sites to lay down flowers and flags in a somber reminder of just how many lives were sacrificed in the name of freedom.
