Police believe a man arrested for a fake charity scheme may be responsible for some of the recent burglaries on the South Shore.
According to police, 24-year-old Bruce Wimmer forced his girlfriend to go door to door to collect money for a fake charity, the Sunshine Fund. After his arrest, cops connected Wimmer to an Oakdale burglary that was similar in nature to other robberies in the area. The homeowners were present during the burglaries, and small amounts of money were taken.
Thirty-nine-year-old Christopher Turner was arrested Tuesday and accused of 10 of the South Shore burglaries. Police believe Wimmer may in fact have perpetrated an Oakdale hit originally tied to Turner. Turner is serving 10 years for a series of burglaries in the late 1990s and allegedly committed the latest crimes while on work release.
