Police in Connecticut say there is no credible threat today after nationwide messages threating schools appeared on TikTok.
They say it’s possible the threats began on a TikTok challenge to encourage students to skip school.
Local police and the school districts are taking the nationwide trend seriously.
"This is a nationwide trend, this is happening in multiple states, multiple areas throughout the nation. Parents shouldn't be worried, right now there are no credible threats here in the state of Connecticut," Trooper First Class Pedro Muniz, says.
TikTok also released a statement saying, "We handle even rumored threats with utmost seriousness, which is why we're working with law enforcement to look into warnings about potential violence at schools even though we have not found evidence of such threats originating or spreading via TikTok."
Many police departments in southwest Connecticut are responding this morning, and they say in an abundance of caution they will have extra security at the schools today, but believe the threats are not credible.
