A Suffolk County teacher has been removed from the classroom after being caught on a livestream making "disturbing remarks," school officials said.

The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District did not identify the teacher, nor detail specifics about the comments made. Officials said the teacher worked at Wading River School, which teaches grades three through five.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole wrote that the teacher "will not be permitted on school grounds pending the outcome of the investigation."

The district said the Riverhead Police Department was made aware of this matter. Suffolk County police tell News 12 they're investigating.

"We will fully cooperate with law enforcement during this process," the superintendent wrote in a letter to parents.

The Suffolk County Police Department says it is investigating a report involving an employee of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District. They say additional information will not be released during the ongoing investigation.
