Ex-Suffolk police chief's corruption conviction appeal denied
A federal appeals court rejected an appeal from former Suffolk Police Chief James Burke.
Burke's lawyers wanted their client's 2016 corruption conviction vacated. His lawyers say the judge in the case should have recused himself for commenting on the investigation that led to Burke's arrest.
Burke pleaded guilty to beating a prisoner and trying to cover it up. He was sentenced to 46 months in prison and has since been released to a halfway house.
