Nassau Democrats want County Executive Ed Mangano to release details surrounding a pair of no-bid contracts granted to a public relations executive with whom he recently denied sexting allegations.
The county executive says his phone was recently hacked and that X-rated messages were apparently sent to several women, including Karin Caro - the president of BluChip Marketing. The Hauppauge-based company received contracts from the county in 2013 and 2014 for Parks Department event planning.
Caro and Mangano have each denied sending lurid texts and tweets to one another.
BluChip Marketing was paid slightly less than $25,000 per contract, just below the monetary threshold that requires legislative approval. The Democratic minority in the Legislature sent a letter Wednesday to the Mangano administration, calling on officials to now identity who chose Caro's company, what efforts were made to identify other possible vendors, a list of those vendors, a list of projects that BluChip completed and the total amount the county paid to the marketing firm.
News 12 Long Island received a statement from the county attorney that said, "The procurement process was fully followed by the Parks Department, the contract was publicly noticed to the Legislature, the services were performed and according to the Parks Department - the work was satisfactory."
It is not clear if the Mangano administration intends to provide the Legislature with additional information concerning the two contracts.
