Surveillance video from early Saturday morning shows the moments leading up to a shooting in Melrose.

The video, obtained exclusively by News 12, shows two people walking together before splitting apart. One of them suddenly grabs a man, forcing him to the ground and dragging him along the sidewalk. A second person can be seen nearby, appearing to point an object in the victim’s direction as the assault continues. Moments later, the victim is shot and collapses.

The victim, a man believed to be around 50 years old, was shot once in the shoulder. The bullet traveled into his neck. He was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he is listed in critical condition.

Police say the shooting happened just before 5 a.m. No arrests have been made, and investigators are still working to determine what led up to the shooting.
