A pregnant woman says someone has been stealing packages from her Central Islip apartment building - including baby shower gifts.
Julie Litvin has been preparing her baby's nursery and has had many of her baby shower gifts delivered to her apartment. She says 10 of them have been stolen.
"Nowadays everything is so expensive, and you want to set up the best for your baby's future, especially your first one," Litvin says.
Litvin installed a doorbell camera Monday and has already captured a woman on video taking a package from her front door.
She says the management of her building did not seem to care about the issue.
Litvin says it is also easy for someone who does not live in the apartment complex to enter. She says there is a key fob but that the doors are never closed so anybody can come in.
The mother-to-be also says the woman seen on the video does not look familiar to her. She believes some of the items that were taken include a baby monitor, clothing and a car seat base.
Litvin says she filed a police report but just wants the gifts back to be prepared for her baby's arrival in September.
"Just return it, I don't need to know who you are or why you did it," Litvin says. "It doesn't have to go through all the cops and everything, I just want my items back for my baby."
She says the management of her building did not seem to care about the issue.
Hawthorne Living Management said in a statement to News 12, “We support federal and state legislation identifying package theft as a felony. The safety of our residents and community at large is of utmost importance to our team. We encourage our residents to report any stolen items to the police department and to communicate any concerns with the on-site management office.”
Litvin started a GoFundMe page to replace the stolen gifts.
