A 30-year-old man is accused of sexually abusing children at a day care center in Bushwick.
Exclusive video given to News 12 showed Devonte Brown, of Bed-Stuy, being escorted Tuesday in handcuffs.
The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said Wednesday that Brown was a teacher at The Learning Factory, and he allegedly spent nearly a year and a half sexually assaulting at least four girls under the age of 10.
“I feel like there’s some type of justice,” said Beverly Barnard, a concerned parent.
Barnard claimed her young daughter attended the daycare on Evergreen Avenue and was abused by Brown last summer.
Police released a photo of Brown:
“I’ve seen behavior of my kid where she didn’t want to come here,” said Barnard.
The mother shared photos of the bruising on her daughter’s body, but News 12 chose not to publish.
“[My daughter] just ran to me and just held me and cried,” said Barnard. “We were supposed to go to Chuck E. Cheese after that. I told her, ‘I’m taking [you] to the hospital;’ and she was like, ‘Thank you, mommy. Thank you for taking me to the hospital.’”
Barnard said she reported the incident to the owner but was ignored multiple times.
Marcus Alston, the center’s former education director, told News 12 that he spent six months working with Brown at the daycare and also reported inappropriate behavior.
“I left [The Learning Factory] because I voiced my opinions and concerned about Mr. Brown, and they fell on deaf ears,” Alston said.
Brown faces a list of charges, including sexual abuse, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.
He is being held on $150,000 cash bail, $300,000 insurance bond or $500,000 partially secured bond.
Brown’s next court appearance is March 27.
Meanwhile, there were notices posted to the front door of The Learning Factory saying that the site is "temporarily closed" due to a Health Department mandate.
News 12 reached out to the Health Department for comment and is waiting for a response.
News 12 also reached out to The Learning Factory, but one woman said by phone that the owner had no comment.
