A Brooklyn man has been arrested in connection with a 2021 acid attack that severely injured an Elmont woman.

As News 12 has reported, 21-year-old Nafiah Ikram was doused with acid while walking up her driveway in March of that year.

The Hofstra student suffered first- and second-degree burns to her face, right eye, arms and throat. She also had limited vision in one eye.

Authorities confirmed the apprehension of 29-year-old Terrell Campbell late Tuesday morning. He has since pleaded not guilty to numerous charges.

Prosecutors say he is an aspiring rapper who allegedly mentioned a face burning in acid in his lyrics.

The district attorney said Campbell is not known to the victim's family. When asked if further arrests could be made, the DA said the investigation is ongoing and "it's certainly possible." No motive was given.

When asked if Campbell was paid for allegedly dousing Ikram in acid, the district attorney said she couldn't currently comment on that. She later said it is something they're looking into.

"It is clear, this heartless defendant intended to cause her irreversible harm and later he cared so little about the traumatic life-altering injuries he caused, he used the attack to try to further his rap career," said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
