A Bushwick family is mourning the loss of their 15-year-old son, who was fatally shot at the Albany Houses last month.
In an exclusive interview with News 12, the family says gun violence took the life of Tristan Rodriguez Sanders.
“He loved being with his family, friends, playing basketball and music, rapping—that was him,” said his mother, Shanae Sanders.
Police say two bullets struck Tristan in the chest on a quiet Sunday evening near the NYCHA development.
“He’s a great kid, he didn’t deserve this at all,” Sanders added. “At all.”
Tristan’s father, Timothy Carter, recalled the moment he received the heartbreaking news.
“I was alone at the moment… I had to see it for myself. I didn’t know what to do because I was in Staten Island and this happened in Brooklyn," Carter said.
The family expressed a shared plea - “Justice for Tristan.”
The NYPD is still searching for at least two suspects who fled the scene after the shooting.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
