A former state trooper who shot himself in the leg and claimed someone else did it has pleaded guilty.

Thomas Mascia now faces six months in jail, five years’ probation, mental health treatment and a nearly $300,000 payment in restitution.

Mascia pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence, falsely reporting an incident and official misconduct.

His attorney said Mascia’s actions were the result of mental health issues, but Nassau District Attorney Anne Donnelly said Mascia was seeking sympathy and attention from an ex-girlfriend.

Masica was set to be sentenced earlier this month.

The sentencing was delayed over questions about his mental health.

Both his parents plead guilty to firearms charges.

Mascia and his parents are due back in court for sentencing on August 20.
