Former Islip Town Supervisor Pete McGowan was sentenced Thursday to 90 days behind bars, five years probation and community service on political corruption charges.
McGowan, who was considered one of the most powerful Republicans in Suffolk County, admitted he used campaign funds to pay for luxurious spa treatments, expensive dinners and lavish vacations.
McGowan resigned in March on the same day he pleaded guilty to to grand larceny, commercial bribe receiving, witness tampering and offering a false instrument for filings.
