A former psychiatrist from Central Islip pleaded guilty Thursday to selling prescriptions.
Dr. Nasreen Kader admitted to writing a prescription for Ritalin to a patient in Nov. 2012 without getting any medical or mental history. She said that she also prescribed Klonopin to a patient without performing any kind of exam in Jan. 2013. Kader also admitted to prescribing Xanax to a patient after a 60-second visit that same month.
As part of a plea deal, Kader won't serve any time behind bars if she successfully completes six months of house arrest, an 18-month program in the mental health court and makes a $15,000 donation to a local drug prevention agency.
Also, Kader must not try to get her medical license reinstated or work in the health care profession again.
If she violates any part of the agreement, she faces up to nine years in prison.
