A convicted felon is the prime suspect in the murder of a Coram woman and her son. Fernando De Campoamor, of Mount Sinai, was arraigned Wednesday on two counts of murder in the second degree. Police say the 59-year-old fatally shot his girlfriend Amelia Garcia, 52, and her 30-year-old son Ferneliz Cruz in his home Saturday. Police say the shooting may have occurred over money Garcia owed the suspect. According to the district attorney, at the arraignment De Campoamor signed a nine-page confession in the case. The suspect has already spent 32 years in prison for two prior murders that took place in 1961 and 1985. Police say De Campoamor was involved in two other shootings and was on parole at the time of the Saturday night murders.
