Neighbors in West Haven are demanding answers about a strange humming noise causing problems throughout the city.

“It’s been going on since 2020,” Kimberly Nunes says. “At first it was intermittent, but now it has become every night.”

Nunes says the vibration is causing harm to people in the neighborhood and making them lose sleep.

“It’s really affecting multiple areas of west haven,” Nunes says. “There are people who have said that it’s affecting them in orange and Milford.”

The city says it has completed done over 300 decibel tests at different locations and at different times of the day and night.

Mayor Dorinda Borer says the city is close to pinpointing where the noise is coming from, but it needs to bring in an expert to do an acoustical analysis.

“Once we have that confirmation,” Mayor Borer says, “We’re going to go to that company and demonstrate that to them and issue a warning.”

John Carrano, commissioner of Human Services for the city, says the decibel levels they’ve recorded haven’t risen to the level of being illegal.

“We are working on it,” Carrano says. “We just need to go through the proper channels and not get ahead of our skiis.”
