Elmont High School is mourning the loss of a beloved coach and guidance counselor.
Gregg Petrocelli, the Elmont varsity girls? basketball coach, died Tuesday after collapsing during the team's playoff game. The game was stopped and Petrocelli was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. It is not known what caused him to collapse.
The 38-year-old father of two was the team's coach for nine years and a guidance counselor at the school for 12 years. Many students remember Petrocelli as a motivational man who always brought out the best in people. Several basketball players even considered him a second father to them.
