Bethpage residents living near the old Naval Weapons Reserve Plant are worried health risks linger despite the plant's shutdown in the 90s.
Navy officials have tested homes near the old plant and some show elevated levels of TCE, a chemical used to clean planes.
"We're scared now," says resident Paula Barretta. "We're nervous. We don't know what we're breathing in."
Further testing is being done on homes in the area. A meeting was held Tuesday evening to inform the public of the situation. At the meeting, homeowners were assured the Navy will remediate the properties.
"As long as they let us come into their homes and do the proper treatments, it will not be an issue," says Lora Fly, remedial project manager.
