A Baldwin woman on her way to console a grieving family was killed while crossing a street Friday.
Louise Isabella, 72, joined her daughter, Luann Viglione, to visit a co-worker who had lost her father this week. When Isabella exited the sedan's passenger-side door, she looked down to fix her skirt and began crossing Presidents Street near Adams Avenue, police said. Investigators said an oncoming minivan struck and instantly killed Isabella.
Police called the incident a tragic accident, and no charges will be filed. Police said the victim attempted to cross the street one block south of the crosswalk.
Isabella is survived by her three children and five grandchildren.
