State police say an Eastport man was struck and killed by a taxi on Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays early Sunday morning.
The incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. State police say the driver of a Sunset Taxi was heading west on the highway near Route 24 when he suddenly saw a male pedestrian in the roadway.
The taxi struck the man, who has been identified as 42-year-old Richard Styles.
Styles was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Styles had exited his own vehicle after it became disabled.
Authorities are asking anyone with more information on the crash to call state police at 631-756-3300.
