Some East Patchogue residents are demanding new safety measures at what they call a dangerous intersection.
The junction of Sills Road, also known as County Road 101, and Hollow Oak Drive is known for speeding cars and trucks, they say.
According to local drivers it's difficult -- and dangerous -- to turn onto Sills Road. They say a traffic light would solve their problem.
Public records show that nearly 20 serious or fatal accidents have occurred at the intersection between 2013 and 2015.
Neighbors say newly installed street lights help illuminate the intersection at night, but they want the county to address the intersection during daytime hours - particularly during the morning rush.
Suffolk County officials say a study is underway.
Gilbert Anderson, of Suffolk's Department of Public Works, says that if the study reveals data that warrants a traffic signal, the county could install one.
The study will look into traffic counts and accident data, among other criteria, he says. It will take a few months to complete.
