Close to 100 needy families will have a turkey and all the trimmings for the holidays thanks to the East Meadow Kiwanis Club. The group is giving out 186 baskets stuffed with a bird and food to 93 families. Each family is also receiving an invitation to a Christmas party hosted by a Hempstead restaurant where guests will eat free and children will receive toys. The Kiwanis say donations from members, businesses, the community, and a grant from the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce make it possible. The club has been giving back to the community for more than 25 years.
The Kiwanis say they?ve seen an increase in families needing help over the years and they?re more than happy to respond. Hempstead resident Anna Figuerola, 16, is thankful for the organization?s work. The teen says the donation will go a long way to help her family enjoy the holidays.
