Former tenants of East Hampton's Windmill Village II housing complex have filed a $4 million lawsuit against their landlord and the town.

Joan Holden and Eleanor Cobb say they were forced to move out of their apartments in the complex. They say their doctors told them that it was unsafe to stay in the complex because of a serious mold problem.

Holden and Cobb's health issues are well documented in numerous doctors notes, which specifically state that the problems stem from mold.

Holden says she tried to work the complex's management, but was ignored. "To dismiss us as not worthy of their time offends me personally," she says.

Windmill Village refused to comment, but one manager told News 12 Long Island that they spent thousands of dollars fixing the mold problem. 

Town officials say the complex hired a mold remediation company to clean up the mold and had it independently certified as mold-free.
